The public is invited to experience Christ in the Passover at the First Baptist Church of Amber at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. Special guest Josh Sofaer with Jews for Jesus will draw the connections between the Jewish Passover and Christ as the Lamb of God.
Pastor Jon Judd said everyone is invited to experience the Lord’s Supper in the same way Jesus’ disciples experienced it the night before the crucifixion.
“As the Gentile church, we tend to forget that salvation is from the Jews and that the entire New Testament is from a first century Jewish perspective. As such, we forget that Jesus' Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Josh Sofaer will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus' death and resurrection.”
Sofaer will set a table with the items traditionally used in the Passover meal and walk the audience through a Jewish Passover seder, or ritualized dinner, explaining the spiritual significance of each piece. Sofaer will blend the story of the Exodus with the life, death and resurrection of Christ.
“He will explain the connection between the events of the first Passover in Egypt and the redemption that Jesus accomplished on the cross, as well as the deep bond between the ancient Passover feast and the Christian communion celebration of today,” Judd said.
Everyone is invited to attend the event and there is no charge for admission. The First Baptist Church of Amber is located two blocks from the intersection of Main Street and Highway 92 in Amber, Okla.
